"Girl's tennis in Negaunee started in the fall of 1975 with Jan Koehs as the coach. In the first year, the U.P. finals had all schools regardless of size in the same tournament. The next two years were coached by Sharlene Hill. During these years, Negaunee competed in the class C-D U.P. Final tournament. The next three years, 1978 through 1980, Negaunee was coached by Charlie Drury, a well known tennis player from Marquette. In 1980, Negaunee won the U.P. championship for the class C-D schools.

In 1982, Jack Tripp replaced Charlie Drury and became the girls' coach. Tripp's teams won U.P. championships in 1983 and 1987, and finished runner up a number of times...The Mid-Peninsula conference was won in 1983, 1987, and 1989.
